On January 23 1959 Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens and Dion and the Belmonts embarked on ‘The Winter Dance Party Tour’, a tour that meant they would play 24 cities in just 3 weeks.
By the time they arrived at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa on February 2nd the tour bus had developed heating problems and all onboard were tired, cold and fed up. Buddy had had enough of the miserable travelling conditions and chartered a four seater plane for the next leg of the tour.
That night’s performance was magical as the fans went wild for their rock n roll heroes as they played their biggest hits including The Wanderer (Dion & The Belmonts), Chantilly Lace (Big Bopper), La Bamba (Ritchie Valens) and That’ll Be The Day, Peggy Sue and Oh Boy (Buddy Holly).
Just a few hours later the plane carrying Holly, Valens and The Big Bopper crashed just outside Mason City. There were no survivors. Winter Dance Party recreates that historic last tour of Buddy Holly. It stars Marc Robinson (‘Stars in Your Eyes’ and ‘The Buddy Holly Story’) as Buddy and features the country’s best Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper and Dion tribute artistes and supported by The Counterfeit Crickets. This superbly authentic show is packed full of rock n roll hits – 40 songs performed with the same raw energy that the original artistes thrilled their audiences with.

The story of the first wild man of rock and without doubt rock n roll’s most exciting performer - from his meteoric rise to fame through hits such as ‘Great Balls of Fire’ and ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ to his equally as fast fall from grace when he married his 13 year old cousin, back to his reinstatement as one of music’s biggest names with his triumphal return to the top in the mid 1960s when he performed at The Star Club in Hamburg.
All the music, all the energy, all the tragedy, all the glory.
I've seen Jerry Lee live twice - the last time at the October before last at the Forum, Camden Town, and I've been a fan all my adult life. I must tell you that I thought your interpretation was absolutely stunning. You are clearly a brilliant musician, and have got The Killer off to a tee! P. M.
Fakenham Norfolk.
Just to say you were absolutely FANTASTIC in 'Killer' at the Medina Theatre on the 11th October. Hope you appear over here again Peter. Thank you very much for a most enjoyable evening. R. A. Isle of Wight
I went to Crosby Civic Hall last night and saw Peter Gill in the above show. Having travelled up from Chesterfield I was hoping it would be a good show – it wasn’t – it was brilliant! P.S. Chesterfield

During the First World War Talbot House in Poperinge, Belgium a few short miles behind the front line, became a haven for thousands of allied troops – a ‘home from home’ where they could enjoy some of the comforts of home and remember the men that they really were. Run by a diminutive chaplain named Tubby Clayton the house became known by its army signaller’s code of Toc H and ultimately would be the inspiration for the association with that name.
Aimed at a family audience, this feelgood and moving play gives a brief taste of the history of the house and with the aid of poetry and music from the Great War, the atmosphere that was felt by the troops that visited it.
