Alison's day job is at Lansdown Insurance Brokers in Cheltenham, but for her, life really starts and ends with her camera and the photographic compositions that she rushes home to each night. Whether it is creating an evocative self-portrait wrapped in bandages or donning a gruesome mask, a stylised and evocative still life or a comic scenario for her famous doll 'Woody' to feature in, it is the passion which fills her life.
Alison was born in Cheltenham and attended Pates Grammar School for Girls on Albert Road (now the site of Pittville School). She has always had a keen interest in the visual arts and for many years indulged her artistic streak through the medium of needlepoint. However, seven years ago she invested some hard earned money in a digital camera and a real love affair began. With the immediacy of the digital age she was able to see the fruits of her labours without waiting for Boots to return a batch of 4 x 6s. This fuelled what has become an all consuming love and pastime.
Her ideas for compositions are influenced by a myriad of factors and are often germinated in her mind during her bus trip home from work each day. Perhaps the most obvious influence can be seen with her 'floating hat' self portrait - a clear nod to the wonderful Magritte.
Alison considers a highpoint of her photographic career was being given a two page spread in the December 2010 edition of Practical Photography.
Alison was the first visual artist that we supported, holding her presentation evening on Thursday 26 May 2011 at D'Fly in Cheltenham.
